Welcome back to The Ultimate Play-by-Post Blog, GaryD20 here with Part 3 of “Where Can You Play-by-Post?” In parts 1 and 2 of this series, we discussed six PbP sites where you can Get Your Game On! Hopefully you’ve been able to check a few of them out. Maybe you have even joined one of the sites discussed. Better still, maybe you have even started playing in or running a game. Given a chance, I think you’ll discover how wonderful the play-by-post medium is and all the great roleplaying opportunities it has to offer.
With that said, lets delve into a few more sites where you can get that RPG itch scratched.
The Tangled Web
The Tangled Web is a forum-based play-by-post site. I must admit, this site is a new discovery for me. I came across it while doing research for another project. It’s always nice to discover a new play-by-post medium. It caters mainly to the D&D and Pathfinder game systems. The community is rather small with just over 1,400 active members (as of this post). The site seems to be fairly active in the forums and discussions areas. From what I’ve gathered from digging around they are flush with players, but light on GM’s. Which isn’t all that surprising. That seems to be true of most play-by-post sites.
The Tangled Web is a nice-looking site. You do have to put up with ads while navigating around, but they’re not too intrusive. There’s all the usual bells and whistles such as an integrated dice roller, ability to upload maps and images, etc. What I found most impressive though are the tutorials. Excellent articles on improving your play-by-post experience. Everything from improving you roleplaying, making memorable NPC’s, tips on better creative writing, etc. Very nice touch.
The Tangled Web is a free to use site but does offer a paid membership level that gets you several nice perks. Such as getting rid of the ads, ability to run more campaigns at a time, more memory for storage, etc. And the subscription is wallet friendly. Less than $20 for a year! I look forward to playing around on The Tangled Web. Definitely going to give this one a try. And of course, I’ll post all about it here, so be sure to stay tuned.
If The Tangled Web has snared you in its sticky offerings, you can check them out here:
RolePlayerGuild
RPGuild is another play-by-post site that, like The Tangled Web, I discovered accidently while researching another project. It boasts 86,000+ users and has a very active community. It’s totally free with no subscription upgrade needed to enjoy all that the site has to offer. All the bells and whistles are here such as ability to upload maps, avatars, video clips, dice roller, etc.
This is a nice-looking site and is pretty simple to navigate and figure out. They offer many different RPG games and systems. Whatever your itch, you’re bound to get it scratched here. RPGuild is definitely going to get some playing time from me. And as always, I’ll post about it here. Want to check them out for yourself? You can do that down below:

mRPG
mRPG is a chat-based play-by-post app. Unlike Role Gate, another play-by-chat medium (which can be accessed through either cell phone or laptop), mRPG can only be used on a cell phone or a tablet and some chromebooks. I’ve known about this app for a while but have yet to try it. So many PbP sites, so little PbP time! Rest assured it is on my to-play list. With a full review to follow.
mRPG offers the ability to play multiple campaigns at the same time, character sheets, dice roller, macros that can be called right inside the campaign chat, upload maps, avatars, etc. and since it’s a cell phone app, you can play anytime, anywhere. The app is free to use, although from what I understand, there are in-app purchases that unlock extra benefits.
Want to check mRPG out? You can download the app at Google Play or App Store.
Well, that’s going to do it for this post. I hope these offerings have piqued your interest in giving, not just these sites but, play-by-post in general a try. In Part 4 of “Where can you Play-by-Post?” we’ll talk about, you guessed it, three more play-by-post sites. This will probably end up being a 5-part series, with part 5 being alternative play-by-post “ish” mediums. After that we’re off to more exciting things as we continue to delve into this thing called Play-by-Post. Until then, roll high, roll often, and get your game on!
All the site seem interesting, so I went and checked them out… Now I’m hook in like 5 different games and loving it.. you should come join…
